charlie and the gnomes

memelainaCharlie and the Chocolate Factory was cool. I like the new Willy Wonka better than the old, and the boy they chose for Charlie could have posed as the model for the boy in the book. On the other hand, although I really thought they did a better job with Charlie's twisty little house and with the four grandparents in the bed, liked the grandfather in the original better than the one in this. But Grandma Georgina's off the wall comments were absolutely classic. So, all in all, a good film.
Terry was glad to have an evening away from her mom. Which surprised me a little because I've found having Fred here great and not at all stressful. Just goes to show you that different people have different effects on us. Terry, although enjoying the visit very much, feels constantly stressed to "entertain" her mother and doesn't feel like she can run away and do the things she needs to do on her own.
Like finish our gnome costumes. Why yes, I -did- say gnome costumes. My girl gnome costume is done, and the hats are done, but terry is finishing up kent's boy gnome costume. We are going to wear these for the masquerade at worldcon in glasgow. the gnomes are the kind of logo for our denver in 2008 worldcon bid. i have a giant hershey's kiss (to show size for the gnomes) and we bought a six foot inflatable bottle of beer on ebay and are hoping that it arrives before we leave on monday. but if you are going to worldcon, SSHHH!, it's a secret.
