My darling daughter is being very patient with me about all this worldcon huhu. About the fact that for nearly a YEAR she's missing out on having a mother and her girls are missing out on having a grandmother. Every time she wants to meet or talk or chat or visit - I'm hip deep in worldcon activities that just can't be put off. Thus, with thoughtful love, she took me to a mother's day breakfast - just the two of us - on Thursday morning. Because I'll be at a worldcon committee meeting all weekend and unavailable for mother's day activities on the traditional day. She also gave me a potted gardenia. Gardenias are my very favorite plant, and this one is huge and lushly healthy and full of buds. I'm overwhelmed.

And the worldcon programming - which keeps me from being a person most of the time - is going a bit better. Program item list is well over 300 with a goal of 400 by 16 May.

And SOMETIMES you even get to have a bit of fun among all the stress. I got an email from David Palmer yesterday. Am I the only one to whom that means anything? David Palmer was a one-book-wonder back in the 80s with Emergence - a book I absolutely adored and have treasured in re-reading for 20 years while waiting for a sequel. Well, a sequel is now on the way out (1st part of the serialization is out in the July/August issue of Analog - on sale now. Not only will I get to meet Palmer at Denvention, but I can read the first part of his novel NOW without waiting for a chronological July/August.

And just to let you all know that I do, somewhere, have a life. My family insists that I take time on alternate Tuesday nights to go to the local Scrabble club. So for two or three hours I can lose myself in a game that has nothing at all to do with work or con or home or family. And I can play with people who don't make faces when I play high-scoring obscure words. Last Tuesday was one of my best nights ever. I won two of two games played (which almost NEVER happens) and I made a 78 point score (without a bingo) playing AQUAE on a triple word score with the Q on the double letter score and the A forming ATONER. Then in the same game I dropped a seven letter SAPPING on another triple and made 88 points.

I document these little joys to remind myself that there is life outside of the worldcon and that someday I will be able to live it more fully.
