my laptop is too hot. summer is coming and there's no way i'm gonna sit thought the summer with this on my lap. what are my options?

do i buy a new (cool?) laptop?
do i get one of those things a laptop sits in to cool it? arent' they horrible noisy?
is there software? i've tried Speedswitch and Speedfan without luck - but then I couldn't really understand the instructions.

I got one of the things the laptop sits on. It's not terribly noisy. It will suck your battery dead if you're not plugged into the A/C power, though...

I found lap desks at Office Max on Saturday - they at least put a layer of something hard (plastic/wood) and a cushy pad between you and the underside of your laptop. I bought one of the cheapies and found it very satisfactory. Since I usually (frequently at least) play on the laptop in bed, it has the added benefit of elevating the fan exhaust above the sheets.
