Congregation vs. Church
Nov. 14th, 2010 03:05 pmJust got back from a special congregational meeting.
Black Forest Lutheran Church voted today 127 to 42 to leave the ELCA. This is
the first of two "formal" votes that is required. The next step is counseling by
the bishop, and then another vote in not less than 90 days. If the second vote
has a two-thirds majority to leave the ELCA then the Rocky Mountain Synod will
decide whether or not to "release" the congregation and allow it to keep the
property, or whether they will send in a new pastor to try to form a new
congregation.
Deep distress and hurt were evident on both sides of the question as the
congregation discussed their view prior to today's vote.
