Am I the only one who dreams in computer applications? Often in HTML but most frequently in Excel. I'll have whole complex dream sequences devoted to amending an excel spreadsheet. I'll carefully and meticulously change line after line, field after field. I'll sort it different ways and scan the fields for errors and correct them. I sometimes seem to spend whole nights doing this. Then in the middle of such a dream early this morning it came to me as a sort of epiphany - a realization still within the dream - that I didn't have a keyboard and since I didn't have a keyboard it didn't matter how many times I changed, adjusted, or fixed my spreadsheet because none of it would save. With that I turned, metaphorically, away from my keyboard and went, though dreaming, to sleep.

Now I know that vivid dreams indicate REM sleep which is supposed to be the most vivid and restful kind. But truly I find the Excel dreams often as wearying as the Excel work that I do hour after hour while waking. The browser dreams are a little different. They usually involve clicking on links to move from one dream sequence to another or one location to another within the dream. Sometimes I'll even "search" within the dream to find something that I am looking for and move to it. It occurs to me to wonder to what extent browser technology has taken over my waking life that it becomes the methodology for my subconscious.
