It's what I do for a living. And right now I'm tired and grumpy bored with the analysis I'm supposed to be doing so I thought I'd tell you about what I've been reading over the last fifteen years. I have incomplete data for 1997 and 1998 (those were the years that I was caring for my mother before she died) but the rest of the data is pretty good.

I've read 1445 different books, 17% of them more than once during that time, and 32% of them were re-reads. My average consumption between 2000 and 2011 (inclusive) is 107 books a year.

My top ten most-read authors (including ties) are:
Georgette Heyer - 70
Lois McMaster Bujold - 52
Elizabeth Peters - 40
Sharon Lee and Steve Miller - 37
David Eddings - 37
Anne McCaffrey - 36
Dick Francis - 32
Robert Heinlein - 26
S M Stirling - 26
Dorothy Gilman - 24
Laurie King - 23
The Bible - 23 (I count each book as a book)

In 2006 I started noting whether I read a book in print, audio, or e-book. I find these stats the most interesting of all. Note that before 2011 (when I inherited my sister's iPad) I read ebooks only on my PC or handheld using Microsoft Reader.

____Print Audio eBook
2006 70% 24% 6%
2007 61% 21% 22%
2008 74% 21% 5%
2009 70% 24% 6%
2010 79% 16% 5%
2011 52% 14% 33%
2012 47% 21% 32%

Time to stop being grumpy and return to my work spreadsheets.
