so sad to hear of Dick Francis' death yesterday. one of my very favorite authors since threeringedmoon introduced me to his work back in the early 80s.
Sigh. So sad to learn of Dick Francis' death in your post. But not really surprised; he was pretty well on in years. Judy and I made a number of pilgrimages to Middleburg for his signings in the local bookstore, always timed to coincide with the race season. It's a small store, and the line ran way up the street over an hour before opening. That's where I learned that Mr. Francis and Tom Clancy shared a publisher, and were great fans of each others work. Clancy's secretary rode along in the company limo one year, and she was carrying a copy of Clancy's latest. And was expected to come home with whatever Francis was signing that year.
Ah, well. He had an active and interesting life, and was able to spend the later part of it in reasonable comfort. Not a bad ride, all told.
