My niece posted this on Facebook today and it hit a cord because it was what Terry and I were trying to explain to another friend (who's here on LJ) a couple of weeks ago at breakfast. You and the quote are right. For people and relationships I care about. And believe it or not, I've done it.

Regarding the situation that raised the discussion, if there were a relationship and I valued it, I'd do so; I might not even have too much angst about it. But there's not, I don't particularly any longer, and I'm done with being bullied and/or hung out to dry by the person who is forcing me into this situation, thus my attitude.
