i had a nice long entry about my raise, and MileHiCon, and books, and my book list, and my kitty, and boom! IE went down and I lost the whole thing. well, here's the kitty, at least.
IE. 'nuff said. But nothing else I personally have works as well. And readling LJ using lynx (remember lynx?) is a truly astonishing experience. Doing it with a slightly wonky implementation of VT100 is even more amazing.
But a raise! Yippee!!!! And books and book lists and kitties are all good things.
I use a text editor to compose longer entries and then paste them into the form. It's not as convenient, but editors are more likely than browsers to have auto-save (and, of course, save).
She was a stray who showed up on my doorstop and demanded attention -- after a summer of lounging in the sunny spots in my yard but bolting if I got within 15 feet of her. I still don't know what exactly changed (just hunger?), but after a couple weeks of trying to find her owner and feeding her because she obviously needed it, I took her to the vet to check for communicable diseases and then brought her in. (I have two other cats.)
She was obviously a (former) pet, not feral, but I don't know if she was dumped or just far from home. I never entirely shook the nagging feeling that, somehow, I had taken away some kid's pet from three towns over or something, though I know that's probably not what really happened.
Years ago when LisaJulie and I were living together (it was okay, we were engaged) we went to the pound and got a lovely big blue tom kitty. We named him Beau Brummel because he had such wonderful, wonderful manners. He had been found stray, but was altered, well-cared for, and obviously used to being in a cage/carrier. We thought he might have been a show cat who somehow got lost. Anyway, a few months later, we went back and found a very small blue female, brought her home, and named her Belle. Things went along very well for about six months until Beau disappeared. We hunted. We looked. We were devastated. Then one day LisaJulie was sitting on the front stoop grooming Belle, and along comes one of our neighbors and tells us about the big grey male that she found who looked JUST like Belle, and how she kept him in the house all the time so he wouldn't run away. She was really rather miffed when we insisted that she give him back.
